SURPRISE!
Hey everyone,
So I got transferred this week and I am in Surprise, Arizona! It is right outside actual Phoenix, but it is still down in the valley area. It is quite the experience when at the beginning of the week it snows(being up in Prescott), and by the end of the week it's hitting close to the 90's.
On Saturday we did some community service for 8 hours, which was great. Not having been in the sun for a while I got absolutely fried, but it was great to be out there talking to a lot of people.
I am now serving in a YSA ward, which is fun because I am with people my own age, but the whole dynamic is so different. I'm looking forward to serving in it, and our other family ward.
My new Companion is Elder Pope. He is 23 years old, he likes to draw, and Play video games. It has been a blast so far this week, but we have been doing nonstop work since i got here so we are exhausted.
One cool thing this week was we have a Part member Family we are working with and the Father, who was in the military does not like missionaries, and isn't afraid to show it. My companion was telling me last time they went over, he was very intimidating and didn't want to talk. I decided I was just going to be myself and see what happened. When we first came in, he was just as my companion had said, but when we sat down for dinner someone said something about basketball. We started talking, and by the end, he was opening up and we were laughing and having a good time. It seemed as though he thoroughly enjoyed us being over, and is cool to see how different talents and interests reach different people.
Last cool thing from this week was in my studies I was looking at how Nephi gained so much faith. I was reading in 1 Nephi chapter 4, verse 6 and the beginning of verse 7, which read, "6 And I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do. 7 Nevertheless I went forth"
This was so cool because it shows right there how we can grow our faith day by day. As we read the Scriptures and pray, we receive spiritual promptings on what we need to do. As we act on those promptings everyday, our faith grows and grows until we can be mighty in faith.
Thanks everyone for the emails this week. I am doing so great
Elder Wilhelmsen
